Jed - The Donkey

The Angel, Gabriel, appears to Mary. The angel Gabriel came to her and said, “Greetings Mary!  The Lord is with you.”  But Mary was scared by his appearance and words.  The angel Gabriel, sensing her fear, said to her, “Do not be afraid Mary, for you have found favor with God.  And now you will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.

Meanwhile, Joseph had learned that Mary was pregnant, and that she had run away to see her relative Elizabeth.  Joseph, being a righteous man, planned to divorce her knowing that he was not the father.  But the angel appeared to him while he slept and spoke to him in a dream.  “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife.  The child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.  She will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus – for he will save his people from their sins.”

Joseph did as the angel had commanded him.  He went and married Mary, even though she was already pregnant.  And when it came time for the baby to be born, a decree went out from the emperor that a census must be taken.  So Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem, which was the City of David, because Joseph was of the House of David.

When Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem, they found that there was nowhere for them to stay.  The innkeeper told them that the Inn was full, but he offered that they could stay out in the manger with all the animals.

That night, Mary gave birth to her son, and wrapped him in bands of cloth.  Then she laid him in the manger to keep him warm.

In that region there were shepherds living in the fields and keeping watch over their flocks by night.  Then an angel stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.  But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid.  I bring you good news of great joy for all the people.  To you is born this day in the City of David, a Savior – who is the Messiah, the Lord.  This will be a sign for you:  You will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.”  And suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly hosts, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth peace amongst those whom he favors.”  Then the angels left them in the field.

And the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.”  So they went with haste and found Mary, Joseph, and the baby.
